South Fork of the Boise Fly Fishing Report July 30

CFS 1820– The river has been fishing great from Tailwaters to Danskin Bridge. The salmon flies have tapered off, but fish are still looking for those bigger bugs. The best tactics with the high flows have been pounding the banks with variations of chubby Chernobyl’s in sizes 8-12. If fish aren’t keying in on top, drop larger BH nymphs and girdle bugs (brown, mottled Black/White) 2-3ft off your larger dry fly. There have been sporadic hatches of Pinks in size 16-18, as well as good caddis hatches occurring after 4:00pm into the evening, any variation (tan, olive, grey) of caddis size 14-18 will work. The Terrestrials are starting to show, so Hopper patterns, Beetles, and CDC ants will start producing.
