Much Needed Moisture

Warm River to Ashton on Tuesday fished a bit slow, but fish are looking for big bugs on the surface. There were no sign of adult stones flying or nymphs crawling, despite word-of-mouth reports of said activities. We fished most of the day with a stone fly strike indicator with a small nymph trailing off about 2 and a half feet of 5X - both were successful. Fish were also caught on a black streamer, but the strikes on the surface kept us returning to the Stone Fly / dropper rig.

It rained buckets half way down the river reminding me that it is wise to be prepared for any situation this time of year. I forgot wader boots, a rain jacket, and any common sense that I might have possessed. Be smart and bring the gear you need to avoid borderline hypothermia.

It's currently putting down that much needed precipitation and is no doubt delaying any Salmon Fly hatch until it warms back up. Despite the setbacks on the fishing the whether is causing, we cannot complain as this can only help the bleak water situation we are facing.

We will keep an eye on the Fork and Warm River and let you know when the hatch heats up so keep your eye on the fishing report!
