Spent about half the day yesterday fishing some of the lower river through Eagle. We have been having some pretty awesome weather this winter, and it has made for almost a spring feel out on the water. If you are going to hit the Boise river in town you should focus your efforts on nymphing and streamers. The Boise is a river that is going to fish or it isn't. I found only a couple fish willing to sample my fly, however they were nice wild browns. Beautiful fish! The Boise has a good number of caddis on it so most caddis nymphs are going to work well. Team them up with a pheasant tail or haresear and you should find success. Don't forget to add some weight to get those bugs ticking bottom. I am more into searching out a few better fish myself. If you are like me try throwing some streamer patterns and I think you will find yourself a couple fish work the extra wait. Sculpin patterns and buggers are good producers, although I throw a wide variety of patterns on the Boise and depending on the day they all seem to find there mark when put into the right seam or ran under that cover that might be a little more difficult to get your fly under. All in all though it is a great river to get out and explore and it has plenty of both stockers to be had and no shortage of quality resident adults hiding from your flies. Good luck and go enjoy having a river thats worth fishing right in the middle of our town.
